 2023 Preview 


       Abbeville Christian completed the 2022 season with a 4-7 record. With their 1-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AA region one, the Generals earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Abbeville Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Patrician Academy by a score of 55-13.

       Since 2010, Abbeville Christian has gone a combined 76-77. Their 49.7% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AA over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Abbeville Christian has managed to compile a record of 121-152. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class AA and 22nd in the AISA.




       The Generals are led by head coach Matthew Mims who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-7 record in his first season at Abbeville Christian. The Generals saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Mims arrived. Under his direction the Generals have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Mims.

      

       The Generals open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Crenshaw Christian on Friday, August 25 at Cougar Stadium. Last year the Crenshaw Christian Cougars finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class A region one. The Cougars lost in the semi-finals round of the Class A playoffs to Jackson Academy by a score of 22-6.

       Abbeville Christian and Crenshaw Christian have met a total of 39 times on the football field. The Generals have a 10-29-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2022 with Crenshaw Christian winning by a score of 59-21.

       Abbeville Christian lost AISA All-State  offensive lineman Connor Jones to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.
